Melvin Ang, the man behind several successful Asian media brands, has launched Apical Media. Apical Media comprises two symbiotic business units: Apical Publishing and Apical Creative.
“Apical Media is born from a shared vision and ambition to disrupt the status quo. With the team’s combined expertise, which has been sharpened by decades of industry experience, we will redefine traditional publishing methods by offering an omnichannel, multiplatform media solution to our business partners,” says Ang, founder and CEO of his new venture.
First to launch is the group’s flagship A magazine. To release in July 2019, A is a dual-platform (print and digital) luxury lifestyle title created for the discerning, ultra-affluent audience. Beyond detailing the passion pursuits and extravagance that wealth affords one access to, A delves into the important conversation topics of today, placing emphasis on advocacy and social causes.
And to support and accelerate brand potential for clients is Apical Creative. The boutique creative agency will turn out bespoke campaigns with original and authentic content and concepts. Its services include event management, strategic planning, content marketing, digital solutions, custom publishing, photography and video production, and design creation.
“The media industry has come to realise that we need to evolve in step with consumption habits, and it’s something I feel energised by. While some see challenges ahead, I see nothing but exciting opportunities,” says Ang.
“Our agility in this dynamic landscape and our intimate understanding of both audience behaviour and advertisers’ needs will be key to our success.”
A 30-year media veteran, Ang was formerly Burda International’s Group Publisher and Managing Director for Asia. He stepped down from this regional role in 2018 to consolidate his impressions on industry trends.
